Abril Macias is a versatile gastronome and storyteller.
I work at the crossroads of food publishing, media, and communications, telling stories about food and its intersection with culture through writing, recipe development, photography, and editorial work.
I’m the founder and editor of Chiú, one of Ecuador’s leading gastronomic publications, where I oversee editorial content and collaborate with a talented team to highlight diverse culinary stories. Through this platform, I aim to elevate the conversation around food and culture both locally and internationally.
In addition to my editorial work, I specialize in content creation and content strategy for both online and print media, having collaborated with magazines, blogs, journals, newsletters, food startups and small businesses, and more.
My passion for food took me to the Piedmont region of Italy, where I immersed myself in food studies. I completed a Master’s in New Food Thinking and another in Food Communication and Marketing at the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo, which deepened my understanding of the global food landscape. During this time, I also had the opportunity to work in food education as a Master Program Tutor and Coordinator, further honing my skills in culinary communication and teaching.
Whether developing compelling narratives for food publications, testing and styling recipes, or photographing dishes, I always strive to create content that engages and educates. I’m passionate about fostering a deeper connection between people and the food they eat, drawing inspiration from a love of art and design, Latin American culture, and a strong commitment to biodiversity and sustainability.
